Sexual assault is a problem faced by millions of people worldwide. In the United States, one out of every six women and one out of every thirty-three men are sexually assaulted during their lifetimes. I saw these statistics and was mortified. Looking more into these statistics, I also found that the chance of being assaulted increased vastly if the person went to college or lived outside the United States. I became fearful for not only my own safety, but also the safety of every one of my peers. There is a problem with this reality that young people must face, and so I decided to try to prepare my peers. I have been a Girl Scout since the first grade, and the last major project I was preparing for was to complete was my Gold Award project. It seemed only logical to confront the rising sexual assault problem by creating a course for my Girl Scout Gold Award project. This project addresses and helps prepare young adults avoid unsafe situations and  provides them hands-on skills if they become a target of sexual assault.
